Since the beginning of Covid-19, we have all paused our social life and lost interest in pretty much everything. Personally, I find that fashion works as an instant mood booster that keeps me creative and out of my pyjamas (well, most of the days). Therefore, the big comeback of the black and white look, a.k.a B&W, and monochrome trend I love to wear, sparked my interest immediately.
For SS21 designers expressed our love for forever pieces that we can wear again and again. The Runway shows fuelled my excitement further for putting together a chic and effortless black and white everyday look. As a result, there are a few things from 2020 that I’m bringing into 2021- neutral tones and good quality fashion pieces are among them. And even though, dressing head-to-toe in B&W look or the same colour might be a no-brainer – it takes an effort. Don’t get me wrong, I love statement fashion piece that makes a simple outfit instantly interesting, but there is nothing I appreciate more than the craftsmanship of a beautifully made garment.
If you also followed latest Fashion Week for FW21/22, you might have seen Ready to Wear shows from Valentino and Chanel (if not, you can watch them here and here). The sophisticated and wonderfully designed easy-to-wear pieces called us to embrace Black and White look. Since black and white colour combo is clearly going strong and will do so into Fall 2021, whatever we buy now will not loose its trendiness the next season.
For my styling take on the trend, I played with the different proportions and kept loungewear elements to my outfit. What else, but a pair of good old black leggings can effortlessly be hidden under the long white blazer. I completed the look with my trusty Christian Dior saddle bag and added a cool pair of sunglasses.
Styling Ideas
B&W Look: A Black & White outfit for me is the ultimate form of sophistication. I love an oversized blazer or an interesting pair of shoes to make my outfit stand out yet still be chic.
All Black Look: I mean, a total black outfit is an everyday uniform that sometimes can end up predictable and a bit uninspired. For an elevated look, try to play with different textures such as leather and silk.
All White Look: A total crisp white look, screams luxury. Play with the proportions of your fashion items (tailored pants with an oversized coat) for a flawless look.
