How to wear monochromatic outfit

When I think about monochromatic outfit, first thing that pops into my head is the latest MaxMara collections. For the past few seasons they’ve been spoiling us with their aesthetically pleasing monochrome outfits on the runways. And they became my absolute winners and inspiration to attempt this look for myself.

Fashion trends are always changing in regards of colour or fit, IT bags or dresses show up from time to time. We also have transitioned from fitted suits to boxy and more relaxed silhouettes. (I dedicated a whole post about the power suit which you can find here) But the way that we put our outfits together seems to stay the same. And sometimes we enjoy clashing colours and patterns for a season, or wrap sandal straps around the end of our trousers. But monochromatic outfit is timeless. It never left and never failed us! Even on your worst day you can still manage to look put together if you choose to go monochrome!

Probably the simplest example of monochrome look is head to toe black or white, which is also the easiest to start with (remember black jeans and biker jacket? Or a white suit?). And I can guarantee that at least once you have been dressed this way without realising and probably kept wondering why do you look so great today? Well, it’s because you are dressed in a one colour!

There are no hidden tricks to wearing monochromatic outfits. All you need is the same colour bottoms, tops, outwear and accessories. Different shades of the colour works perfect as well! And if you wish to take it up to a complete monochrome perfection – shoes too. Make sure to mix textures within your monochromatic look! It will add more visual interest and dimension to the outfit. Added bonus, it’s a great look if you are keen to show case you brand new shinny bag or new pair of shoes.
